What is the difference between a flexible fuel engine and a normal car engine?
I know that flex-fuel engine can burn ethanol, gas, or E 85. My question is why more than one engine can and can not be normal.
Flex fuel is 85% alcohol. In general, receive a lower return on 1 / 3 of a tank of fuel. Therefore, if you get 300 miles on a tank of gas, you get about 200 miles on E85. Furthermore, the E85 is much more corrosive than regular unleaded gasoline, and the air / fuel to burn is different between the 2 fuels. Fuel stations have to use special pumps for E85, since the regular corrode. In order to burn E85, the engine must be able to say what proportion of fuel alcohol is, so you can adjust air / fuel. If your engine was not built to burn E85, which can be damaging to deal with.
